Child Protection Policy

Last year, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania enacted 23 pieces of legislation changing how our state responds to the problems of child abuse. These changes significantly impact the reporting, investigation, assessment, prosecution and judicial handling of child abuse and neglect cases.

As part of the legislation, beginning July 1, 2015, all adult (age 18+) volunteers responsible for the welfare of a child or having direct contact with children is required by law to have obtained child security clearances. This is in effect for ALL organizations within Pennsylvania, whether they be employers or churches. Clearances will then need to be updated every 36 months.

Certain individuals, in order to volunteer with children, are required to obtain clearances which may include the following:

The FBI check will only be necessary for volunteers who have not lived in Pennsylvania continuously for the past 10 years.

Volunteers will need to pay $10 for the PA Child Abuse History Clearance and another $10 for the PA State Police Criminal Record Check.  The FBI check also involves a fee.

We also have available the mail-in form that can be completed and mailed to the State.  The instructions and mailing address are on those forms.  The form to be completed is just one page.

The entire on-line process will take less than 15 minutes if you have the following information available to you at the time you go on-line to complete:

Your Name, Address, Social Security Number, Date of Birth, a Phone Number,

Previous Names used since 1975 (maiden names, nicknames, aliases)

Previous Addresses since 1975

Names of Household members who lived with you at any time from 1975 to the present.  This includes anyone who has deceased.

When you go online, you will be walked-through a process of setting up you own private log-in.  You’ll need to go through this process before you can begin filling out the form.

Below are the background checks that need to be completed. You will need to create new accounts if using them for the first time. If you need an FBI check done, please contact Bob Gates for the link.
